Growing up in rural Arizona, Bennett initially aspired to become a professional skateboarder. Filming skate videos sparked his interest in filmmaking, but his true passion for storytelling emerged after his father introduced him to the Alien and Predator franchise.

His favorite movies and TV shows include Memories of Murder (2003), The Thing (1982), Alien (1979), Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), Jojo Rabbit (2018), The Walking Dead (2010), Stranger Things (2016), and True Detective (2014).
